Bladeless Laser and Epilasik is not the same as Bladeless LASIK

Some doctors, especially in Mumbai, who do not have a femtosecond laser, perform PRK and try to mislead patients into believing that they are performing Bladeless LASIK. In fact, if you are careful, you will notice that they claim Epilasik or Bladeless Laser, not LASIK.

Let us warn patients not to get convinced by such tricks. Bladeless LASIK is done with a combination of a femtosecond laser and an excimer laser, and is a much different and better procedure than that done by PRK, Bladeless laser, Epilasik or call it what you will. Only the excimer laser is used for this procedure, and obviously, it costs much less, because no advanced femtosecond laser is used. Bladeless Laser or PRK has lots of issues, and that is why in most advanced countries in the world, only a small fraction of all procedures done are by this technique. 90% of all laser procedures in the US for example, are done using Bladeless LASIK not Bladeless Laser.

No wonder the cost of Bladeless LASIK is more than that of Bladeless Laser. It simply has more costs for the surgeon, and rightly so, given the improved safety and accuracy profile. Don’t get taken in by con artists, who confuse you with words.
